Keto Mojo measure blood glucose levels and ketone levels

What to Know about Blood Glucose Monitoring

I started using a blood glucose monitoring device to monitor my blood sugar while fasting. It was also recommended by my Doctor, as she said I was borderline insulin resistant. Anyone with insulin resistance or higher blood glucose levels should monitor their glucose levels daily. In addition, anyone doing prolonged fasting should monitor their blood glucose.

A glucose monitor is an essential tool, as it helps people manage their blood sugar levels effectively. Blood glucose monitoring is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and preventing complications associated with diabetes and other illnesses. In this article, we will explore various aspects of glucose monitoring, including different types of glucose monitors, how they work, the importance they play to healthy living and healing on a cellular level, and the device that I recommend and personally use everyday, the Keto-Mojo.

Types of Glucose Monitors

There are several types of glucose monitors and testing available, each serving a unique purpose:

  1. Blood Glucose Meter: These are the most common devices used for blood glucose tests. They measure the blood sugar level using a drop of blood obtained by pricking the finger with a small needle.

  2. Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM): These devices use a tiny sensor inserted under the skin to continuously monitor blood glucose levels. They provide real-time data and can alert users to high or low blood glucose levels all throughout the day.

  3. Fasting Blood Glucose Test: These tests measure blood sugar levels after an overnight fast. They are often used to diagnose diabetes.

  4. Glucose Tolerance Test: These tests measure blood sugar levels before and after consuming a glucose-rich beverage. They help diagnose gestational diabetes and other conditions.

  5. Glucose Challenge Test: Similar to the glucose tolerance test, but it involves drinking a glucose solution and measuring blood glucose levels after one hour.

How Glucose Monitors Work

Glucose monitors typically involve a few common components and steps:

  1. Test Strips: A drop of blood is placed on a test strip, which is then inserted into the glucose meter.

  2. Blood Sample: The device measures the glucose level in the blood sample.

  3. Test Results: The glucose meter displays the blood sugar level within seconds.

The Importance of Blood Glucose Monitoring

Regular blood glucose monitoring is vital for individuals with diabetes. It helps them maintain their blood sugar levels within a healthy range, reducing the risk of complications such as diabetic ketoacidosis, kidney diseases, and cardiovascular issues. Monitoring blood glucose levels also aids in adjusting insulin doses, dietary choices, and physical activity.

Using the Keto-Mojo can help you monitor your glucose and ketone levels, ensuring you stay within a healthy range and adjust your diet and lifestyle accordingly. This is particularly beneficial for those consuming a keto diet and attempting to reach ketosis, extended fasting, insulin resistance, managing diabetes mellitus, gestational diabetes, or following a ketogenic diet.

Blood Glucose Monitoring: Detailed Breakdown

Blood Glucose Meters

Blood glucose meters are widely used for routine blood tests. They require a drop of blood, usually obtained by pricking the finger with a small needle. The blood sample is placed on a test strip, which the glucose meter analyzes to provide an immediate reading of blood sugar levels. These devices are user-friendly and provide quick results, making them ideal for daily use.

Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs)

Continuous glucose monitors are advanced devices that provide real-time blood glucose monitoring. A tiny sensor is inserted under the skin, continuously measuring glucose levels in the interstitial fluid. CGMs can alert users to high or low blood sugar levels, helping them take immediate action to prevent complications. These devices are particularly useful for individuals with type 1 diabetes who require frequent monitoring, or if you are doing prolonged fasting, anyone with insulin resistance, or hypoglycemia.

Fasting Blood Glucose Tests

The fasting blood glucose test measures blood sugar levels after an overnight fast. This test is often used to diagnose diabetes and assess how well the body manages blood sugar levels. High fasting blood glucose levels may indicate diabetes or prediabetes, prompting further testing and medical evaluation. I have found it best to test my blood glucose and ketone levels first thing in the morning after I wake up. My husband has also incorporated this into his morning routine as a preventive measure and to closely monitor his ketone levels.

Managing Blood Glucose Levels

Physical activity helps reduce blood glucose levels

Effective management of blood glucose levels involves several strategies:

  • Regular Monitoring: Frequent blood glucose tests help track sugar levels and identify patterns.

  • Healthy Diet: The standard solution “experts” provide is “have a balanced diet.” See my diet recommendation below.

  • Physical Activity: Regular exercise improves insulin sensitivity and helps regulate blood glucose levels. It is important to exercise daily and walk after every meal.

  • Medication: Consult with your healthcare provider.

  • Stress Management: Reducing stress through relaxation techniques and adequate sleep can positively impact blood sugar levels.

Healthy diet variations for cellular healing

Diet Recommendation

  • One single diet that you stick to forever is not the solution. The healthiest diet is diet variation. For example, a carnivore diet can be a useful tool to lower blood sugar, inflammation, or help with autoimmune issues, but it shouldn’t be stuck to long term. Keto is also a useful diet tool, but like carnivore, or any other diet that significantly restricts carbs, should not be permanent. I like to cycle my diet weekly. Some days are keto, others are cellular healing diet, and I also incorporate fasting. Refer to the Transformation Health and Home Healthy Diet Guide for more information.

  • Intermittent fasting is good for insulin resistance. Women that are intermittent fasting should do so in proper alignment with their monthly cycle.

  • Healthy fats such as avocado, tallow, MCT oil, extra virgin olive oil, and avocado oil can aid in balancing blood sugar. Animal based proteins that are pasture raised, grass fed/finished, and organic should also be incorporated. When consuming carbs from grains they should be unrefined and gluten free if experiencing any type of inflammatory state. Raw dairy/cheese can be a positive addition. Consume organic fruits in moderation and a healthy amount of vegetables. Increase your fiber intake. Refer to the Transformation Health and Home Healthy Diet Guide for more information.

  • Taking apple cider vinegar before meals has been shown to significantly reduce blood glucose levels after eating. Taking the natural supplement berberine can also be beneficial.

  • As hard as it may be, do not snack throughout the day and make your last meal of the day before 6:00pm, if possible.

Risks and Considerations

Blood glucose test

Blood glucose monitoring is generally safe, with very little risk involved. However, it’s essential to use the devices correctly and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Some potential issues include:

  • Slight Pain: Pricking the finger for a blood sample may cause slight pain or discomfort. I do not personally have pain from pricking my finger and I am one that is prone to passing out when I need to get my blood taken, even during a routine blood test.

  • Accuracy: Ensuring the accuracy of test results is crucial. Always use reliable devices like the Keto-Mojo. To ensure accuracy, I always wash my hands prior to performing tests and I wipe the finder that I am going to prick with the rubbing alcohol provided with the device. I bgin measuring from the second drop.

  • Test Strips: Using the correct test strips for your glucose meter is essential for accurate readings. The Keto-Mojo has 2 test strips: glucose level and ketone levels.

Ketone Monitoring

In addition to blood glucose monitoring, some individuals may need to monitor their ketone levels. Ketones are produced when the body breaks down fat for energy instead of glucose. This can occur during periods of low carbohydrate intake, prolonged fasting, or in a condition called ketoacidosis.

It is important to use a device that provides accurate measurements to help manage conditions like ketosis, a natural metabolic state, and diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

Conclusion

Blood glucose monitoring is a vital aspect of managing diabetes and maintaining overall health. With various types of glucose monitors available, individuals can choose the best device to meet their needs. The Keto-Mojo is easily purchased, affordable, and stands out as a highly recommended glucose monitor, offering dual functionality for both glucose and ketone monitoring. By using reliable devices and following a comprehensive diabetes management plan, individuals can effectively control their blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of complications. It has been a huge help in my journey to get healthy!
